Quinte West man charged following fatal collision

BELLEVILLE – Quinte West OPP have charged a driver in connection with a fatal motor vehicle collision that took place on Oct 3.

On Oct. 3 at approximately 12:25 p.m. OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Old Highway 2, east of RCAF Road in Trenton.

Quinte in red zone as COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the region

BELLEVILLE – As cases continue to spike in the region, Hastings Prince Edward Counties have moved to a COVID-19 red risk level.

The health unit announced new changes in the COVID-19 updates adding a new colour-based risk level. This will make it easier for residents to evaluate the virus’ presence in their region.

Local restaurant named in public health outbreak notice

BELLEVILLE – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is asking people who were at Linguine’s restaurant between Nov. 19 and Nov. 26 to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 after several cases were connected to the restaurant. .

The health unit is investigating the COVID-19 cases present at the restaurant during that period. Individuals who attended the restaurant between Nov. 19 and Nov. 26 are advised to isolate at home and away from others as they may have had an exposure to COVID-19.

Local police warn to watch for porch pirates

BELLEVILLE – With the festive season upon us, Prince Edward County OPP is reminding everyone to protect themselves from porch pirates.

With the increase in the number of online purchases, more parcels are being delivered making it easy for porch pirates to swoop in and steal these parcels.

To keep packages safe, residents are advised to track online deliveries and be present at home upon delivery to request a signature. One can also opt for in-store or curbside pickup wherever possible.

Break-in results in unpleasant damage

BELLEVILLE – A break-in that police say included a man urinating on his ex-partner’s bed resulted in several charges on Monday.

Someone broke into a residence on Haig Road and damaged a door, spray-painted the walls and urinated on the victim’s bed, according to Belleville Police. The police were called to the scene at 5 p.m. Monday.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with breaking and entering, mischief and breach of probation.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 16.

Belleville Senators play two games at home on weekend

BELLEVILLE – Coming off their home opening win last weekend, the Belleville Senators team are in preparation to take on the Cleveland Monsters this weekend.

Two people face drug trafficking charges in Picton

BELLEVILLE – Two men have been charged with a number of drug trafficking charges after officers conducted a traffic stop on Picton Main Street on Monday.

According to the OPP, officers stopped the vehicle shortly after 1 a.m. Police say the driver was found with a suspended drivers license, a quantity of suspected substances, two cellular phones and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Two fentanyl near-death overdoses in Belleville

BELLEVILLE – Two men nearly died Monday of overdoses from what is suspected to be fentanyl, according to Belleville police.

A 36-year-old Belleville man was found on the floor of a North Front Street hotel room at 11:30 a.m., police say. He was rushed to Belleville General Hospital. After being cleared from the overdose, he was taken into custody by Ottawa Police over an outstanding arrest warrant.

Quinte West council voices support for winter warming centre

BELLEVILLE – Quinte West council expressed support at its meeting Monday night for the idea of a warming centre in the city this coming winter.

This proposal was presented to council by a group led Rev. Isaac Mundy, the minister at Trenton United Church.

14 new Covid cases reported by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health

BELLEVILLE – Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reported 14 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Ten of the new cases are in Quinte West and four are in Belleville. Ten of the cases are in unvaccinated people, two are in fully vaccinated people, and two are in partially vaccinated people.

Five people are being treated in hospital, with one person in the intensive care unit. The health unit also reported eight new recoveries.
